Florence was referred to the James Bay Community Project after suffering a shoulder injury that sent her to the hospital. Following her husband’s passing, Florence had been living alone for nearly four years and spent much of her time in solitude.
Initially, Florence was reluctant to join The Seniors Connection Luncheon at JBCP. However, she has since formed new friendships in the program and now looks forward to the luncheons, feeling disappointed when she has to miss them.
“I don’t meet people easily, I’ve always been that way. But the program is helping me meet people,” Florence said.
She appreciates how much the program has helped her step out of her comfort zone and connect with fellow community members. Her friendships extend beyond the program and, despite describing herself as a homebody, she enjoys going for walks in the neighbourhood with her newfound friends.
Since attending the Seniors Connection Luncheon, Florence has grown socially and formed new connections. She now looks forward to leaving the house to come to the Project.
Your gift can help seniors like Florence build up their resilience and form meaningful connections in your neighbourhood.
