The Family Resource Centre is closed on weekends, statutory holidays or as otherwise noted.

Registration Info

Registration is required for all programs. Sorry, no drop-ins.

For programs with online registration available, you can book up to two weeks in advance. (See individual programs below for details.)

Parent & Child Groups

  • For families with babies up to 15 months. It is an opportunity to play and connect in a relaxed social setting.
  • Tuesdays from 12:30-2:00 p.m.

  • A free, registered 8-week group for new parents and their babies up to 10 months.
  • Come and learn some fun songs, rhymes, fingerplays and a little bit of storytelling.
  • Wednesdays from 12:30-1:30 PM and runs throughout the year (groups start in January, April, June and September).*

*Next group starts April 2024.

• A free, registered 10-week informal discussion group with guest speakers on baby-related topics. Fun and friendship for new parents and their babies up to 6 months.

• Thursdays from 12:30-2 PM and runs periodically throughout the year (New starts in January, April and September).*

*Note – we currently have some spots open in the next group that starts April 4th, 2024.

This free six-week positive parenting program is offered several times per year.  It’s based on what parents want to learn about, and it’s a safe place to meet other parents with children the same age and with whom they share interests and concerns. Mutual support, interactive, strengths-based and fun.

Children’s Play Groups

  • For families with children, from birth to five years old.
  • Monday to Friday (unless otherwise noted)
  • 9 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.

  • A free, weekly gathering time offering a simple meal and an opportunity to play and connect with other families.
  • Open to all families in the neighbourhood with children up to 12 years of age.
  • Runs weekly on Tuesdays from 4-6 PM.

Youth

  • Free weekly food skills program for 11-14 year olds.
  • When: Mondays (closed on stat holidays)
  • Time: 4 – 5:30 p.m.

Family Support

Family Outreach workers can offer information and one-to-one support to children, youth, parents and families with children from birth to 19 years in James Bay, Fairfield, Oak Bay and Central Victoria.

  • Advocacy and support regarding challenges
  • Information, referrals to community resources
  • Help navigating systems
  • Mediation between teens and parents
  • Parent support and mentoring
