Bridging The Digital Divide

Bridging The Digital Divide offers free digital literacy sessions to older adults, seniors and elders who would like to learn more about using portable devices: smart phones, tablets and laptops.

Building digital literacy skills can help with:

  • develop confidence in using portable devices
  • keeping in touch with family & friends
  • maintaining independence (e.g.: using an online map for errands; scheduling appointments; prescription refills and more)
  • build up resilience and brain health though learning something new

All questions and levels of experience welcome. We can also help you determine which portable device or apps would be best suited for your specific needs. Please register in advance to attend.

Future group work sessions include:

  • how to identify scams
  • how to keep your personal information safe

Bring your questions and your portable device (if you have one) to a session with our IT (Information Technology) specialist.

Day: Mondays (closed stat holidays)
When: September 22, 2025 to March 2026.
Time – our receptionist can help you choose between an individual session or group* session:

  • Individual one-to-one session (three slots available; 45 minutes each): 11:15 a.m., 12:15 p.m. or 1:45 p.m.
  • Group session (one slot available; 75-minute session): 2:45 p.m. or  4:00 p.m.

Cost: free – advance registration required.

*Groups are usually 4-5 participants so that everyone has time to ask their questions, learn from each other and enjoy social time together.

Night of Lights

This event features exclusive shopping deals, entertainment, light refreshments, and the chance to win one of five $1,000 shopping sprees. Every ticket purchased through the James Bay Community Project will help us continue providing vital support and services that build resilient children, youth, and families in our community.

Can’t attend?
You can still support JBCP by purchasing a ticket and your name will be entered in the door prize draw. It’s a win-win! 

Tickets  

Night of Lights tickets are just $5 each for attendees ages 3 and up. Tickets will only be available in advance – they will not sold at the door on the day of the event. To purchase your tickets in support of JBCP, visit one of two locations:

  • Hours: Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. (closed weekends and statutory holidays)* 

*our reception desk is closed for lunch between 12-12:30 p.m.

  • Located inside James Bay Square Mall – entrance is in the nook, just past the Thrifty Foods gardening section. 
  • Hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.*

We do not have a POS (point-of-sale) machine so payment options are:

  • cash (exact amount preferred)
  • e-transfer: in the memo section, please include [1] your full name, [2] contact info (email and/or phone number) and [3] the words Night of Lights to “accounts@jbcp.bc.ca”.
    • Transactions are almost always instantaneous but can take up to a half hour. If you choose to pay on-site/during our operating hours, please give yourself adequate time for this payment process.
    • You may also send your e-transfer at any time and come in for your purchase the next business day/during operating hours – please bring your transaction confirmation email with you as proof of payment. Thanks!
