The James Bay Community Project is a neighbourhood house and community centre which provides Family, Community and Volunteer Services. Our programs and services seek to enable connections and build resilience through a variety of programs and services for all ages. JBCP provides opportunities for volunteerism and participation in community life, and works in partnership with many other agencies and organizations. JBCP is a non-profit society (James Bay Health and Community Services Society), with a volunteer Board of Directors.

About Us

Your Neighbourhood House

James Bay Community Project is part of the Coalition of Neighbourhood Houses. As a neighbourhood-based service hub, we offer a continuum of services that are specific to the needs of the James Bay area.

Our core services include: early childhood development (learning and care programs); parenting education, parent and caregiver support; resource and referrals; meal programs; volunteer opportunities; seniors’ programs; youth programs; as well as programs and services for the wider public.

Services are free or low-cost for all participants. Clients and visitors can expect a welcoming and accepting environment in a non-secular and accessible space.

Our History

For nearly 50 years, JBCP has operated a variety of programs and services, reflecting the changing needs and interests of the community. Many of the community initiatives that were developed during this period have gone on to become independent organizations, such as the Neighbourhood Environment Association, James Bay Market, the Beacon newspaper, Birdcages Housing Society, and the Foundry (formerly the Victoria Youth Clinic).
